Irrigation History

One of the most complex irrigation systems of the ancient world were those of ancient Sri Lanka, the earliest of which date from about 300 BCE and were under continuous development for the next thousand years. In addi- tion to underground canals, the Sinhalese were the first to build completely artificial reservoirs to store water.
