Frequently Asked Questions about GPID

6. Question: If the diversion is removed, no water will be delivered, is this true?

Answer: No. The legislation that is being re-introduced in Congress in Washington, DC, is requesting funding for a new modern pumping facility in place of the diversion dam. The facility will be built by the Bureau of Reclamation and operated one whole year before the diversion is removed. Water deliver will be reliable again. We have had major breakdowns the last three years that have cost over $300,000.00 in repairs alone. The diversion is 80 years old. Even though it was renovated in the late 1950's, the turbines and pumps are original 1920 era. New parts have to be fabricated. No replacement parts or people with knowledge of the parts are available. It is expensive, time consuming and patrons are going without their water.
